1 cup tur dal (pigeon pea) or any other lentils cooked
½ tsp mustard seeds
½ tsp asafoetida
1 green chilli, finely chopped
1 tomato
¼ tsp turmeric
sea salt to taste
1 cup water
juice from ½ a lime
1 tsp cumin seeds
Method
Temper the mustard and cumin seeds till they begin to splutter. Add the tomatoes, green chilli and cook a bit. Add the dal, turmeric and some water and bring to a boil. Add salt and garnish with chopped coriander and lime juice.
Variation– You can avoid tomatoes. Add other flavours like ginger, garlic, fenugreek seeds etc as per your taste
