Chana Dal Tasty Chutney

Ingredients

  • ½ cup red gram (chana dal)
  • 3 tbsp grated dry coconut
  • 3 tbsp groundnuts
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste
  • 1 fresh red chili
  • sea salt to taste

To Temper

  • ¼ tsp mustard seeds
  • asafoetida to taste

Method

Roast dal & grind with all other ingredients (using a little water) into a paste. Temper with mustard seeds and asafoetida (hing).

Variation

In the above, reduce tamarind and add raw tomato (lightly steamed) to get raw tomato chutney. Another variation would be with sauted onions.
